Love Our Island Art Walk: Radical Beauty, Part 3

Love Our Island Art Walk comes back to Downtown Alameda for a fun-filled evening during the next 2nd Friday ArtWalk. On Friday, June 8, 6:00-9:00 pm, Rhythmix Cultural Works and the Downtown Alameda Business Association will present three hours of of art and music along Park Street for the third installation of the creative art event.

Love Our Island Art Walk – Radical Beauty, Part 3 presents three new art installations to be revealed in empty storefront spaces between Encinal Ave and Buena Vista Ave, along with six live musical acts. To help attendees visit all the sites in style, LimeBike will have complimentary bikes available at Redwood Square Alley, Alameda Bicycle, and Walgreens.

Art Installations:

1320 Park Street (former Juniper Tree Vintage) Joanna Ruckman is an Alameda-based artist who teaches printmaking workshops at Phoenix co-working space and artist studios. Her current work explores the symbolism of braids, weaving together art, textiles, and storytelling.

1326 Park Street (former Juanita’s Restaurant) The collaborative duo known as RoCoCo is comprised of KC Rosenberg and Modesto Covarrubias. Together their works explore complex emotional states, social justice, and contemporary culture.

1617 Park Street (former Alameda Video Game Exchange) Heather Deyling’s “Invented Hybrids” is imagined variations of flora, fauna, and fungi representing an alternative future in which species have merged to create new life forms. 

Music Performances:

Redwood Square Alley (between Sole Desire and To Herb With Love) Swingin’ Vintage Jazz, Sultry Blues, Boogie Woogie by Steve Lucky and the Carmen Getit Show.

1419 Park Street (Park Street Plaza) Jazz by Cava Menzies Duo, performing beautiful renditions on keyboard and trumpet.

1522 Park Street (Alameda Bicycle) Salsa, boogaloo, and merengue by Trio Sin Lio, a small band that packs a big punch.

1600 Park Street (Walgreens) Shona Marimba by Chinyakare, a dynamic ensemble from Zimbabwe.

1650 Park Street (Alameda Marketplace) Acoustic and vocal stylings by Paul Manousos, who also happens to be the owner of nearby East End restaurant.
