Welcome, Kathy Weber

The Downtown Alameda Business Association board of directors is pleased to announce that Kathryn Weber will be its next Executive Director. 

Kathy has over ten years of experience running downtown associations, first as Director of the Downtown Marquette Business Association (Michigan), and then as Events Manager with Benicia Main Street. Most recently she served for over ten years as Corporate Partnership & Events Manager with the Alameda County Community Food Bank

“Kathy comes to us with an extraordinary background that will contribute to the continued growth of our district. She has a keen understanding of business associations and has the know-how to help us create and execute our long-term strategic plan and vision,” comments Otto Wright, President of the Downtown Association. 

Kathy Weber will officially join the Downtown Association on March 9. 

Upon accepting the job Kathy said, “I am so excited for this new adventure! I woke up this morning filled with enthusiasm and am eager to begin!”

New Bike Racks Installed

Thanks to hard working City of Alameda staff, 17 new bike racks were recently installed throughout our downtown district near these locations :

Tickets Available for Whiskey Stroll 2020

Downtown Alameda Whiskey Stroll

Handcrafted small-batch whiskeys paired with yummy bites prepared by local chefs await guests as they stroll through Alameda’s historic district at the 3rd Annual Downtown Alameda Whiskey Stroll on Friday evening, March 6 from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.

Ticket holders will have the opportunity to visit unique downtown shops and spaces while tasting more than ten different premium whiskeys from around the Bay Area and learning about the creative process behind each handcrafted flavor. Price of admission includes collectible tasting glass, whiskey tastings at more than ten unique downtown businesses, a delicious bite at each location prepared by downtown eateries, a commemorative guide, as well as exclusive offers from downtown businesses.

“Our events help people discover that Alameda is a fantastic destination to shop, eat, and play. The Whiskey Stroll is a unique opportunity to attract downtown visitors who may not already be familiar with our diverse range of local businesses,” states Aviva Kellman, Membership & Events Coordinator of the Downtown Alameda Business Association. “Talking to people at the event is always interesting. Guests enjoy coming to the Whiskey Stroll because it makes them feel like part of a community that is vibrant and active.”

Thank You, Janet

The Downtown Alameda Business Association’s Board of Directors wish to thank Janet Magleby for serving as our Executive Director for these past years.  

Janet has been instrumental in injecting a renewed energy into the Downtown Association; bringing new events to the district; building member relations; and working diligently with the City to keep our downtown clean, green, and safe. 

With Janet’s departure, the Board is dedicated to finding a replacement who can match her strong qualities. 


Proclamation Declaring January 21, 2020 as Janet Magleby Day in the City of Alameda: 

Whereas, as Executive Director of the Downtown Alameda Business Association (DABA) for the last three years, Janet Magleby provided inspired leadership, promoted Downtown Alameda, built business relationships, and vigorously advocated on behalf of local businesses; and 

Whereas, Janet oversaw the addition of Park Street Landing to the downtown historic district, strengthening the connection between the waterfront and North of Lincoln Gateway district; and 

Whereas, Janet also guided the successful vote of commercial property owners to increase the Landscape & Lighting assessment, enhancing maintenance of the downtown district – a long sought, important goal; and 

Whereas, Janet originated and implemented the Clean, Green, and Safe Fund, which raises thousands of dollars from street events to improve the appearance of our downtown; and 

Whereas, Janet also introduced new and widely successful fundraising events, including the Whiskey Stroll and Hot Cocoa Crawl; and
